The Convenience of Small Laptops
Sunday, January 25th, 2009 by adminIn today’s competitive business market it is imperative that you bring your office with you when traveling near and far for important meetings and transactions. You need a conveniently sized small laptop to take in your car, on trains or on airplanes. Lugging along a larger computer would just not make sense.
Fortunately most computer brands now offer several portable as well as durable models to choose from. These super-compact, ultra thin small laptops are designed with the business traveler in mind. Computer technology has created smaller hardware making it possible for the smaller computer to be just as techno packed as a larger desktop.
Imagine the ability to study or conduct business in any environment from the corner café to the neighborhood park. If you travel home or go on vacation you could take your work, hobby or homework with you.
Most of us have flown on an airplane and sat next to an annoying passenger who is trying to balance their huge laptop on the tiny tray in front of them. You may have a long jaunt to your job or college classes on board the local community transportation network with lots of time to get some business or schoolwork done. Small laptops are great for these situations.
The first step in doing your pre-purchase research is to decide what your computer needs or desires are. Will you want to download videos and music? Will you be producing graphic designs? Could you get by with a small screen or do you need a larger one? I have listed a few small laptops below along with some of their specs.
ASUS Eee PC 904HA
This computer made the list of small laptops because it is the best value at $350. The price makes it affordable for the college student as well as the small business owner. It is a little heavier than the other small laptops and does not have a DVD drive. It does have a 160GB hard drive and three USB ports, so you can store movies easily.
HP Mini (AKA 2113)
This baby is perfect for the person on the go. They are moderately priced at just under $800. It is very thin, only other in the small laptops category that is thinner is the MacAir. It has several other great features as well, aluminum skin and titanium framework and HP3D hard drive.
Toshiba Satellite Pro U400-S1001X
The Toshiba is probably one of the sturdiest and most durable small laptops. This computer is priced in the neighborhood of $800. It has the ability to charge USB devices like an iPod even while shut down but plugged into an outlet.
Apple MacBook MB061LL/B
This Apple MacBook has made our list of small laptops even though it is the largest, heaviest and not quite as suitable for taking on business trips. This computer is for the laptop crowd that has a need for a bigger screen. With its nearly $970 price tag, it is not quite as affordable as the others. One important feature for our laptop travelers is that it can find and connect to Wi-Fi in almost any location.
I have given you a sampling of what is available in the small laptops category. So evaluate for yourself with an online search of the various laptop makes and models. Get recommendations from a friend or colleague before you take the plunge.
